Reclaiming The Edge
Risk, Responsibility, and Modern Masculinity
A hard-edged look at what happens to capable men when external structure disappears — and the work of rebuilding it.
New from Garrett Carr
Risk, Responsibility, and Modern Masculinity
For men who've noticed the drift, and are done pretending it isn't there.
Available in Paperback, Hardcover, and Kindle

Built Through Pressure
Discipline is not motivation. It is the ability to act consistently when comfort, emotion, or fear push against action.
Comfort Has a Cost
Avoiding risk may feel safe in the short term, but slowly erodes confidence, capability, and self-trust.
Leadership At Home
Children do not need perfection. They need steadiness, presence, direction, and someone willing to carry responsibility.
Meaning Requires Responsibility
Purpose is built through challenge, accountability, contribution, and responsibility.
Reclaiming The Edge is a book for men who sense that something essential has been dulled, buried, or quietly trained out of them, and who want to do the work of getting it back.
It's not a war memoir. It's not a motivational manifesto. It's a practical, hard-edged look at what happens to men when the external structure that once gave their lives shape — military service, high-pressure work, or clear consequence — is no longer there.
Drawn from a decade in Air Force Special Operations, building businesses, surviving betrayal, raising sons, and rebuilding alignment between capacity and responsibility, the book is written for the everyday man who is capable of more and willing to do the work to get there.
This is not a book about becoming dominant. It is about competence, responsibility, and learning to carry weight.

This book resonated with me on many levels. It is not a theoretical treatise by a PhD, it is a reflection on lived experience from a man just like you and me. He succeeds, he falls short, he does better. But critically, he learns and reflects. This is not a book you'll read once. It's a framework you'll check in against; a blueprint for character.

Reclaiming the Edge is a powerful, honest book about responsibility, risk, discipline, fatherhood, and what it means to become a capable man in a world that often pushes comfort over growth.
Garrett Carr writes from lived experience, not theory. This book is direct, practical, and challenging in all the right ways. It does not romanticize masculinity or turn it into some loud performance. It brings it back to competence, ownership, and carrying responsibility well.
Highly recommend this one, especially for men who know they are capable of more and need to get back in the fight.

What a fantastic book. Garrett's perspective was spot on with what men, and our society, need to do to empower ourselves. His personal experiences as a father and military member were very relatable. This is a must read for all men, those in leadership, and parents with boys. Great job!
